Construction Skills for Women

Endeavour is excited to introduce a new Construction Skills for Women workshop in 2018!

This workshop is held over four weekends:
June 9/10& June 23/24 & July 14/15 & July 28/29

Interested in learning some bad-ass building skills? Our Construction Skills for Women workshop is your chance! This workshop involves you in all the steps of framing and finishing a small building. You’ll measure, mark, cut and assemble floors, roofs, walls, doors, windows and siding… all in a supportive atmosphere with two experienced women carpenters to lead and direct you.

Course Overview

Weekend One:

• Tools and tool safety
• Construction terminology
• Measuring, marking and layout

Weekend Two:

• Wall framing
• Wall raising

Weekend Three:

• Roof framing
• Roofing installation
• Siding

Weekend Four:

• Doors & Windows
• Trim and finishes

Learning Outcomes

Endeavour’s Construction Skills for Women workshop will give you the skills and confidence to create your own small building and tackle other building/repair projects.

You will gain experience with:

• Power tools and hand tools so you know what tools you’ll need to get the job done
• Evaluating and sourcing material for projects
• Framing for code-approved floor, wall and roof assemblies
• Cutting and assembling framing components
• Installing doors and windows
• Sheathing and siding materials

Instructors

Construction Skills for Women is led by Endeavour Centre’s Jen Feigin, who has led over 100 women through our popular Carpentry for Women workshop. Jen will be joined by one other woman instructor, TBA.

The instructors and curriculum are designed to accommodate those with no previous building or tool experience as well as those who have some background.
